In 1715 a mighty Spanish treasure fleet was struck by a storm off Hutchinson Island. A vast fortune in gold, silver and precious stones was strewn near the shores of an area we now know as the "Treasure Coast". Much of that Spanish treasure still awaits discovery. According to legend it lies within wading depth scattered along miles of unspoiled shoreline. This sparkling blue Atlantic coastline defines the eastern edge of Martin and St. Lucie Counties.

The Treasure Coast truly is a beach lover's paradise. Uncrowded beaches, clean water and natural sand dunes stretch the length of both counties. From Jupiter Island's Blowing Rocks Preserve to the Fort Pierce Inlet State Park, the beaches are indeed the jewels of the "Treasure Coast".

Come explore the water wonderland the Treasure Coast has to offer with scenic rivers, quiet coves and secret islands. Whether by power or sail, you can discover the beauty and bounty of the surrounding waters. Fishing enthusiasts will revel in deep-sea, lagoon, river and surf fishing. Heading out to the Atlantic Ocean via the St.Lucie Inlet or the Ft.Pierce Inlet you can fish the waters off Grand Bahama Island. Sail west via the Okeechobee Waterway through Lake Okeechobee to the Gulf of Mexico. Florida's only cross-state waterway. Lake Okeechobee covers 730 square miles and is the second largest freshwater lake within the U.S.
